The Case of the Marble Floors

A customer had an issue with a brand new system another company had installed, yet lost all support when the system didn’t show the quality pictures they had anticipated. The installer claimed the problem could not be corrected, blaming the “high end” décor and saying it wasn’t compatible with the technology of any security camera. We went in, and even before meeting the manager, knew the problem was going to be the high gloss Italian marble floors, which would provide a washing glare to the cheap cameras.  We were correct, and with a swap to wide dynamic technology cameras, the crisp picture was exactly what they were looking for.

The Case of the Disappearing Contractor

As is way too common, a customer purchased a CCTV system from a “jack of all trades” contractor. After he (and their money) was gone, they found that the system would only record video for 4 days before overwriting itself. In the time it took to drink a coffee, we were able to go into the settings and reprogram the system to give the customer more than 30 days worth of recorded video, just by correctly setting up the DVR, as should be done during the initial installation.

The Case of the Sleeping Guard

A client came to us with the problem that their overnight security guard, who was supposed to be making his rounds hourly through the nine story facility, decided to sleep during his shift instead.  He had not noticed a water leak from a burst pipe on the 5th floor until the water worked its way to the lobby, and over $250,000 worth of damage had been already been done. It took over two hours for the water to come to the guard's attention.  Much of the damage could have been avoided with the scheduled guard tour system we subsequently installed for this client, which requires more accountability and less sleeping.

The Case of the Morning Coffee

A routine morning coffee stop for one of our techs had an old system they hadn’t budgeted to upgrade until complete store renovations were scheduled for the following year.  When the system repeatedly failed, our tech offered free, older loaner equipment we had stockpiled from previous jobs.  The devices installed, the system worked as it was designed to originally, affording the store owner the time he forecasted to upgrade the system.  With our focus on his needs before our own, we gained not only the store as a customer, but a character reference that has yielded several new “more than satisfied” clients to the Horizon family.

The Case of the Hit and Run Driver

A call came one day from a local Police Department who hoped to identify the perpetrator of a hit and run that left thousands of dollars in property and vehicle damages.  Knowing we had done multiple systems in the area, and working with the pictures from their public street cameras, we were quickly able to identify the vehicle and driver, leading to their arrest.  With the vehicle clearly identified, the insurance claim went unchallenged and the victims were able to recoup their losses with little effort.

The Case of the Obvious Camera

Tight budgeted, a high-end retailer continued to have inventory problems and reoccurring shoplifting issues. Their existing system was very obvious and clearly pointed incorrectly. With a few additions of covert, hidden cameras to their system, the repeat thieves quickly learned that they were not beyond the scope of their security.  The high-quality covert cameras provided a clear and precise picture of the shoplifters to the police, and their deviant careers were cut short.
